There are times when the “fall line” from the anchor point to the location best suited for landing is not straight. When the initial direction of the load line from an anchor should turn to take advantage of the best terrain for the evacuation or movement, a change of direction is called for.
A change of direction is simply an anchor built with static line rope, such as a 50’ anchor line or webbing with a pulley attached to the working end so the fall line or direction of travel can be changed under tension. The best changes of direction are attached to an anchor with a prusik, so they are adjustable.
