All EPCSAR members, while providing medical treatment, operate under the license of a Colorado licensed physician and the EPCSAR Medical Director serves as this licensed physician. The Medical Director provides guidance, training, and direction in accordance with El Paso County Protocols. The Medical Director is available via cell phone to provide medical advice during missions. Ideally some sort of communications link is set up between the field team and the Medical Director. When the Medical Director is unavailable, communications with a physician at the Emergency Department (ED) of either hospital can provide medical advice if needed. When a field team is, for some reason, unable to establish communication with the Medical Director or an advising physician it must rely on training, experience and the El Paso County Protocols.
